At only 11 months old, Zeus has already endured a host of medical issues — many of them genetic, the result of poor breeding practices. Among other conditions, he has elbow dysplasia in both elbows, secondary arthritis, and hip dysplasia where the ball of the joint floats instead of resting in the socket. This won’t heal on its own and will eventually lead to inflammation, early arthritis, and chronic pain.
After X-rays and extensive consultation, it was determined that with proper support, Zeus can still enjoy a good quality of life. He requires ongoing joint supplements, Omega oils, and glucosamine chondroitin to slow the progression of joint disease and help lubricate his joints, as well as Metacam to manage pain. For the rest of his life, his guardians will need to monitor his condition with annual blood tests and wellness checks, keep his weight controlled, and moderate his activity.
Full of love and joy for life, Zeus is absolutely worth the effort — and we are thrilled that he has been adopted with special conditions by a family committed to giving him the best future possible.
