The barrage of bad news that we are all subjected to on a daily basis often over-rides the positivity in our world. Today, we choose to celebrate the great people who touch our hearts with their acts of generosity and love of companion animals and their people. Haw’aa – Haawa – Thank You to Laura from Quest Canine Support and Education (questcanine.com) for donating her time to help some of our Gwaii Animal Helpline Society alumni, who were still in need of support in adapting to their new forever homes. Margo Hearne and Peter Hamel recently adopted Fintan, and Laura met with them last month while she was visiting Haida Gwaii. Read on to learn about their journey with this small-but-mighty dog!
“Mr. Fintan is definitely part of the family. Suddenly, a few weeks ago, we all settled down and started taking each other for granted. Just as it should be with a live-wire dog. He comes when called (treats work a treat); is comfortable on the leash, even heels when he’s not gasping to chase some imaginary four-legged creature. Loves his walks and goes like the wind, but always keeps an eye on us and knows where we are when we’re out. He still wants to attack big dogs but we do our best to avoid them and, as his eyesight is not great, sometimes he doesn’t see them in the distance and we get away quietly.
Laura, the trainer, was very good: calm, had many good ideas to settle Fintan in barky situations. We would definitely recommend her training methods. Laura is a lovely person and a gentle trainer. I hope she had other clients while she was here; she was very professional and knowledgeable.”
