Code of Conduct for Volunteers
Introduction
This Code of Conduct outlines the standards and expectations for all Gwaii Animal Helpline volunteers. By following these guidelines, we can ensure a positive, respectful, and productive environment for everyone involved.
1. Commitment to the Charity’s Mission
- Understanding the Mission: Familiarize yourself with the charity’s mission, vision, and values.
- Representing the Charity: Always act as a positive ambassador for the charity.
2. Professionalism and Respect
- Respect for All: Treat all staff, volunteers, clients, and community members with respect, fairness, and courtesy.
- Professional Behavior: Maintain a professional demeanour and uphold the charity’s reputation in all interactions.
3. Confidentiality
- Privacy: Respect the confidentiality of any sensitive information you may encounter about the charity, its clients, and its operations.
- Non-Disclosure: Do not disclose any confidential information to unauthorized persons.
4. Integrity and Honesty
- Honest Communication: Communicate honestly and transparently with fellow volunteers, staff, and clients.
- Accountability: Take responsibility for your actions and decisions, and report any misconduct or breaches of this code.
5. Health and Safety
- Safety First: Follow all health and safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
- Reporting Hazards: Immediately report any safety hazards, incidents, or accidents to the appropriate person.
6. Inclusivity and Diversity
- Embrace Diversity: Respect and value the diversity of all individuals and promote an inclusive environment.
- Non-Discrimination: Do not engage in discrimination, harassment, or bullying.
7. Reliability and Punctuality
- Attendance: Commit to the agreed-upon schedule and notify your supervisor as soon as possible if you cannot fulfill your duties.
- Timeliness: Arrive on time for all shifts, meetings, and events.
8. Teamwork and Collaboration
- Cooperation: Work cooperatively with other volunteers, staff, and community members to achieve common goals.
- Support: Offer help and support to fellow volunteers whenever possible.
